Just how fast can they go on these little 275’s? That may be the question as some racers and fans wake up this morning pondering the achievement of John Urist over the weekend. Urist and company were in Joliet, Illinois for the NMCA/NMRA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing with their “old” New Edge Mustang following a crash earlier this season. John was working his way through the competition as he has been known to do in the Super Street Outlaw ranks and made a little history along the way. Urist bolted on a set of Mickey Thompson’s new ET Street Radial Pro tires with pressure from his partner Dwayne James and it proved to be wise decision as he made a record-setting pass during qualifying.
In the first round of eliminations John Urist had a competition bye and even on a hot track in marginal air quality conditions, Urist tuned up his Super Street Outlaw Mustang to see just what the 275 tire was capable of holding. The decision quickly came full circle in just over seven seconds as Urist made his quickest pass of the weekend and became the fastest man on 275’s. With a 7.096-second pass at 201.97 mph, Urist and his Nitto Tire sponsored machine became the second Super Street Outlaw racer to go 200 mph on the 275 tire — a feat accomplished just a month prior by Andrew DeMarco.
Urist made the quicker pass of the two and it’s believed to be the quickest and fastest pass on a 275 radial tire to date.
