If you aren’t up-to-speed on just who Anthony Heard is, you might want to get to know him and his turbocharged Mustang. Anthony rocks a highly modified ’99 Mustang, and he was dubbed the 2017 Tremec Stick Shift Shootout winner during last month’s NMRA Spring Break Shootout event which took place in Bradenton, Florida.
He rocks a single-turbo 331 cubic-inch SBF combo, backed by a Tremec Magnum XL 6-speed manual transmission and an ACE twin-disc clutch. Part of his combination works in conjunction with a Haltech engine management system and a full UPR Products suspension. On Mickey Thompson drag radials and Weld Racing wheels, Anthony is able to bang the gears in the old Tremec fast enough to make consistent 8-second passes on just about any track.
Anthony's old combination consisted of using a Fox Mustang chassis for competition, but has since switched over to the New Edge platform for the 2017 season. So far, this move has played out well for Anthony and his team. Photo credit: Mattu Photography.
In the video above from our friends at BigKleib34, Anthony rockets his ’99 Mustang into the high 8-second range at more than 154 mph consistently. Anthony’s goal at the end of the day is to “keep the lost art of stick shift racing alive,” and it’s obvious that he relies on Tremec’s manual transmissions to make that happen.
We think it’s safe to say, Anthony is more than capable of pushing his Mustang into the mid 8s with a few changes to his combination – but one thing will stay the same, and that’s the use of his manual transmission for the win.
