While his name may not be as well known as Carroll Shelby, Jack Roush has a well-earned reputation as a badass racer and builder of awesome muscle machines. His work with the S197 Ford Mustang has borne the ROUSH Stage 3, or RS3 Mustang, a supercharged beast that can shred tires and corners with ease. Oh, and it also beat a Shelby GT500 head-to-head. Just saying.
Speaking of tires, not just any rubber can hold up to the 575 horsepower and 505 ft-lbs of torque coming out of the ROUSCHcharged 5.0. So ROUSH has to put the tires through some especially tough testing that includes lots and lots of burnouts, as seen in this video.
The ROUSCHcharged 5.0 makes more power and torque than 99% of cars on the road, and for that reason Roush joined forces with Cooper Tires to co-develop a performance tire that can handle even the harshest treatment. The result was the Cooper Zeon RS3-S, an all-out performance tire for the street, and as we see in the video its quite good for burnouts as well.
Before, and after.
But the ROUSH RS3 is more than just a big engine or fancy tires. The RS3 package includes a 6th-generation “aerobody” body kit that subtly changes the look of the S197 Mustang from front to back. Then there’s also the top-of-the-line suspension package that includes new anti wheel-hop control arms, twin-tube shocks, bigger brakes (note how hot they get in this video!) upgraded bushings, and of course those Cooper Zeon tires that help this tire-burning Mustang carve corners with equal grace.
As our chief editor Mark Gearhart can tell you, the Roush RS3 Mustang is even better in person than it looks in pictures.
