Shmee150, a.k.a. ‘Shmee’, who travels the globe on auto seeking adventures recently visited the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan for a behind the scenes sneak peek into the production of the Ford Mustang on the Mustang assembly line. In Shmee’s signature selfie video technique he begins in the well-known lobby where thousands of visitors are greeted yearly.
A bucket list item without a doubt for any Mustang enthusiast, Shmee braves the no filming rule to capture this once in a lifetime opportunity to share this amazing facility with the world. Opened in 1972 as the Michigan Casting Center the Mustang would not find its beginnings here until 2004 when it was converted for the assembly of the iconic pony car.
Currently the birth place of the Mustang and the Fusion, through the assistance of both human, machine, and robot, life is breathed into the Ford Mustang for the first time here at this amazing complex. Capable of producing up to 70 units a day, Ford Motor Company invested over 500 million dollars in 2013 into the plant in preparation for the global launch of the all-new 2015 Mustang.
From start to finish the Mustang makes a journey of around fifteen miles through the plant before going through a final customer inspection process where it is scrutinized to ensure it receives the Blue Oval’s stamp of approval. A complex assembly process that involves thousands of parts, components, and people along with a dash of ingenuity ultimately results in the production of a single vehicle. With the all-new Ford Mustang breaking sales records and having now made its official entry into the world market you can be sure Ford’s investment into the plant was well worth it.
