Ford has spent millions making the 2015 Mustang one of the best road cars out there. In the five years since the debut of the MT-82 6-speed transmission, Ford has managed to refine it immensely. That doesn’t mean that there still isn’t room for improvement. While the stock shifter might be fine for those who use their Mustang as more of an appliance than drive it as it was intended, there are plenty of us looking for something with better feel. That’s where MGW Ltd comes in with their all new Race Spec S550 shifter.
MGW’s latest Race Spec shifter creation is for the 2015 Mustang, and available for both the 5.0 GT and the highly popular EcoBoost model. MGW’s shifters are CNC machined, to exacting quality standards, their “no rush” approach to manufacturing helps to ensure this. Each shifter is a complete kit, and includes all of the necessary components for installation.
Every step necessary is outlined to complete the installation.

MGW goes to considerable lenghts to control NVH with their shifters. Outside of their manufacturing tolerances and built in design features to control NVH, they also include sound deadening material to place on the shifter during installation.
MGW builds their shifters as a complete unit. Other than transferring some bushings and hardware from the stock pieces, there’s virtually nothing used over from the weak stock shifter. The lower shifter box support bushings give immensely more support to the shifter linkage arm, helping to prevent damage. Centering springs ensure that drivers can hit any gear, even under rapid paced power shifting. MGW’s shifter also reduces the total shifter throw by 30-percent, which is a solid balance of throw reduction and shift action smoothness.
With the 2015 Mustang only having been on the market for a few months, there are several steps that make installation different than on S197 models. If it’s been a few years and the last shifter you installed was in a Fox body, SN95, or New Edge Mustang, then you’re in for a whole new experience in shifter replacement. Regardless, MGW recommends anyone installing one of their shifters in the new S550 watch this video.

MGW offers several different shfit knob options. The final product looks like it came from the factory this way.
In the video MGW takes viewers step by step through the removal of the stock shifter, and the installation of their parts. This is a must watch before ever attempting the installation, and would likely make a great step by step guide to have handy as you work through the process.
We’ll be working with MGW on several installs over the next few months, and look forward to giving their Race Spec shifter a full review. Until then, if you’ve ordered one or are thinking about it, you need to be sure to check out this video.
