Hennessey is the modern day Yenko. If you want a car with insane horsepower, performance up the wazoo and one that stands out from the crowd, John Hennessey is the guy to go to. But not everyone will have the privilege of owning or even driving a Hennessey-built supercar. Unfortunate as it is, this helps give Hennessey an even bigger edge from the exclusivity standpoint. But don’t be too disappointed if you don’t have the extra cash to dish out for one of Hennessey’s beasts. This week’s Tuned episode on the DRIVE network takes you as close to a Hennessey creation as you could ask for, or at least as close as you can get without owning the car. Check out the episode above.
The Camaro ZL1 is a potent modern muscle car but let Hennessey get his hands on it, and its stock 580hp quickly looks like child’s play. While Hennessey does have a ZL1 package that offers a “mild” 650hp, Matt Farah and the Tuned crew got their hands on something a bit more potent- the HPE700 ZL1, which offers 707hp and 717ft-lbs of torque.
This is accomplished thanks to the list of Hennessey Performance upgrades, including a supercharger and intercooler upgrade, HPE cold air induction system, HPE700 camshaft, high-flow cylinder heads, 160 thermostat, and stainless steel long tube headers that dump into a new exhaust system. These modifications even come with a 36 month/30,000 mile warranty. If you want loud and proud performance, this is the way to go.
These two beasts have just about as many similarities as they do differences, but which one will prevail on the track?
