We are big fans of the Ford Focus ST. The Ford Performance vehicle is not only a fun little hatch with plenty of power to zip around the track, but it also makes for a practical daily driver as well. Who says you can’t have the best of both world, right?
While many ST enthusiasts start with the bolt-on upgrades shortly after taking ownership, one upgrade that is still relatively rare is a bigger turbo. So what happens when you slap on a bigger turbo? Well, the results might just surprise you.

Most of us are aware that the design team at Ford put a lot of time and effort developing a twin-scroll turbo that performs extremely well with the EcoBoost engine. And although the twin-scroll system aims to deliver power and torque consistently with little lag, the engineers at Ford also needed to make sure it was fuel efficient as well.
Garrett GTX Series Turbochargers
Garrett GTX Series turbochargers are designed specifically for the hardcore enthusiast who wants optimal performance. The forged fully machined billet aluminum compressor wheels feature next-generation aerodynamics that provides a larger horsepower range and maximize boost response.
“It changes the entire character of how the power is,” David said. “The stock turbo on the Focus ST hits really hard and has a lot of torque, but then you’re out of power and everything levels off.”
With the Garrett GTX 2867 R, it gives ST owners the added top-end power they might be searching for. If you wanna play you gotta pay, and $2,000 dollars for a single upgrade on a car like the ST is considerable. There’s also a good chance you can kiss your factory warranty goodbye, but this is a risk hot rodders have long taken into consideration.
