Update: Geely Automotive isn’t going to be directly operating Miller Motorsports Park. MyTime Racing, a motorsport subsidiary company of Geely Automotive, will have control of the track. Jalopnik was emailed this note from a Geely Automotive representative: “Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (ZGH) is the mother company to four independent subsidiary companies: Geely Auto Group, Volvo Car Corporation, London Taxi Company and MyTime Group. Another company under MyTime, NARCAR, operates various motor sports activities in the Chinese market such as Formula 4 and grass roots racing projects.”

There are good things to come for Miller Motorsports Park, we can feel it. In the meantime, check out Utah’s Fox 13 reporter Robert Boyd’s Twitter account. He has been posting updates since the purchase last night.

Back in May of this year, we reported that the Miller Group decided to not renew their lease on the land in Toole County, which in turn would cause Miller Motorsports Park to cease their operations by October 31st of this year.

We had no idea that decision was going to be made, nor did the rest of the racing community, and when the news surfaced it was quite the shock. There was no word about potential buyers for the facility at the time, but that all changed today. Earlier today we caught wind that a local Utah news report said that Geely Automotive, the Chinese company that owns Volvo, is going to buy Miller Motorsports Park. Overall, it’s great that Geely Automotive is going to purchase the facility instead of letting it get shut down, or build the aforementioned prison that was talked about last year before the renewal news.

Jalopnik spoke to Toole County commissioner Shawn Milne. He told them that the deal wasn’t exactly complete yet, but said that they were trying to get it done to announce at a Commission meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

Andrew Cartwright, a developer who has reportedly lost out on the bidding, told the news station that he intended to keep every aspect of the track intact, as well as build office buildings, new homes, condos, and jobs. As of late, Cartwright claimed that Toole County commissioners said it was going to go with Geely which plans to build a manufacturing facility on site. Cartwright was caught off guard when Geely’s offer was lower than his own, and was accepted over his. Something is fishy here. We’ll report back once we hear more details; stay tuned.
