Buying a brand new car only adds to importance of making it to work even when the road conditions are a bit dicey. According to the New York Post, Daniel Ivanovics of Iceland found himself in that very predicament as snow blanketed the roads. He used his then three-day-old 2017 Focus RS to blaze a trail through the snow at work.
Even though he had braved the heavy snow to make it to work, the Icelandic tour busses were snowed in, so Daniel decided to make a path using the Focus. Working as a tour bus operator, Daniel used his driving skills behind the wheel of his new car to send snow flying. Whether or not a Focus RS was designed for use as a snowplow, it was able to do the job efficiently.
Although a vehicle is capable of doing something does not mean that it is a good idea. Even though the temperatures were obviously cold, it was still possible for the car to overheat if snow were to become embedded in the radiator. Using the compact car as a plow worked, but the risk might not be worth the reward as this was a three-day-old car.
Even though the car did not overheat, the potential for damage still exists, so this should serve as a do not try this at home warning. Fortunately, Daniel did not have a problem and there was no need to explain anything to the dealership. However, a Focus RS snowplow might be something worth building in areas where the white stuff proves problematic in the winter months, as that all-wheel-drive setup can definitely do work.
