Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky get ready for an exciting weekend October fifth and sixth. Rally North America racers will be scouring all over the tri state area competing in a scavenger hunt type rally race, all in the name of charity. Each year since 2009, Rally North America has hosted an event with the goal being to have fun and raise money for a specific charity. Starting grid positions are determined by which team raises the most money for the charity.
This year however, RNA decided to put on a second smaller loop type rally in addition to the previous event in July in remembrance of 17 year old Cody Converse who lost his life to SUDEP or Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy earlier this year. The Ohio Valley 700 benefits the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio and will start in Beavercreek, Ohio Saturday morning. The destination that evening is the five star French Lick Casino Resort Hotel in French Lick, Indiana and then loop back to the start/finish line in Beavercreek Sunday evening.
Each team is made up of a driver and navigator who are not told what checkpoints they have to hit until 15 minutes before the start of the race each day. This method prevents anyone from predetermining routes the night before. Teams also have to show proof that they were at each checkpoint via photos in order to get points.
No shortage of fun at an RNA Rally!
Our own Kelly Leslie will be participating as a driver with her 2013 Mustang GT as Team OnPoint #24. Leslie is currently sitting in 2nd place on the grid and has raised roughly $700 dollars to date. She has also picked up several sponsors including Lebanon Ford, DynoJoe Performance, Pro Torque Converters, Donathen Racing, Hyper-Performance Motorsports, 187 Graphix and DuckX Productions. Small tire race promoter and owner of DuckX Productions, Donald Long is giving Leslie a spot at his No Mercy 4 event September 26-29th at South Georgia Motorsports Park in which to showcase her car to aid in raising donations.
