Over the past 20 years, Flaming River has done its best to bring automotive enthusiasts the highest-of-quality steering components, steering accessories, and electrical components. Many of those products fall under the steering wheel category. A steering wheel upgrade is something that any enthusiast can do at home with simple hand tools, and Flaming River shows us how to install one of their aftermarket steering wheels and wheel adapter on one of its own steering columns.
A relatively short video, the process involves only wiring for the car’s horn, and various screws. In this application, the horn kit has a simple wiring set up, allowing for plug and play functionality.
After completing the wiring for the car horn, the video explains how to position the turn signal canceling cam for optimal fitment. Keeping the same position, the spring is installed next.
The Flaming River wheel adapter is then placed over the cam, and the nut holding it all is hand threaded. After hand-starting the nut, it is securely tightened with a simple adjustable socket wrench.
Simple hand tools are all that is required.
The technician at Flaming River advises to tighten the wheel adapter firmly, but only to a 1/16-inch reveal between the wheel adapter and the steering column. With the wheel in the straight ahead position, be sure to double check that the wires are at the 10 o’clock position.
The installer then proceeds to hook up the wire inside the horn assembly and screw the center plate of the steering wheel to conceal it all, finishing the install. After the center plate is screwed and secured, you’re all set with your new steering wheel.
It’s a simple process and made hassle free, thanks to the team at Flaming River. Keeping things straightforward is more than a blessing for the experienced or budding automotive enthusiast.
