Most people are familiar with Saleen Autosports as a supplier of Ford aftermarket parts and specialty built musclecars. What most people don’t know is that Steve Saleen left the company some six years ago after disputes with management. So, he went off to found his SMS Supercars company. He proceeded to build some bad ass Mustang, Challenger and Camaro Supercars, as his former company went bankrupt. How many times have we seen this happen?
Yep, the man stepped back in and took over again! Now he has merged his Supercar company with the original Saleen Autosports to form Saleen Auto. And he is not nearly done. Not even! Not only does he honor all of the warranties for the former cars, but he has formed SMS Super Parts for those in need of, well, super parts.
Building OEM type supercars is plenty cool but, around the year 2000, Saleen came up with a better idea, he proceeded to manufacture the S7. This U.S. built car laid claim to the World’s Fastest Supercar. There may have been a faster car; the S7R he followed with, built for pure racing.
So what does a guy like this, who has his own fan club, do next? Well, naturally he builds more supercars – and other cars. Word has it, he has a new supercar in the works, and he has also announced an EV. Now, we’ve been seeing some pretty fast electric vehicles around lately, so who knows? Might get interesting.
In this day and age, there are all kinds of supercars running around. It’s hard saying which is the fastest one, then of course, some one will always make theirs faster. Maybe Saleen will just make the S7 faster yet or maybe his next one will be the fastest on the planet! Well gearheads, somebody out there has got to know. What is the fastest supercar out there now?
Will the Raptor be the next production supercar from Saleen?
