Ask just about any Saleen enthusiast, let alone Mustang ones, and the Fox Mustang platform is highly regarded as one of the best generations of ’Stangs around. Foxes fill the lanes of many drag strips nationwide, and for good reason. Plenty of go-fast component suppliers cater to the Fox platform, as did Saleen in the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Such was the case with this 1989 Saleen Mustang LX convertible, brought to us by none other than Bring A Trailer. This bright red example is currently available for auction, and it’s quite the clean example upon initial inspection. According to the original listing, this ’89 drop-top Fox brings a clean, Rhode Island title to the table, and much more.
The Mustang was actually purchased as a demo car in May of 1990 from McCafferty Ford in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Since that acquisition, this Saleen Fox has had two additional owners, and has just shy of 41,000 original miles on its odometer.
The Fox has been refinished in its original Canyon Red hue back in 1993, and even retains its original door tags from Ford and Saleen.
The current owner, who has owned it since 2006, has made a few tasteful additions to the ’vert as well. The addition of Dart Eagle iron cylinder heads and an FRPP E303 camshaft help the Fox breathe better, and a Steeda Autosports fiberglass cowl hood adds a nice touch to the exterior.
